EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING

For Workplaces

Drug-Free Workplace Programs

Non-DOT employers still benefit from maintaining a structured drug-free workplace program. These programs often include pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing as part of a written policy.

Why Implement Workplace Drug Testing?

A structured drug-free workplace program protects your business, reduces liability, improves employee safety, and can lower workers' compensation costs. Our testing programs are designed to help employers of all sizes maintain compliant, defensible drug testing policies.

Types of Workplace Testing

Pre-Employment Testing

Screen candidates before hiring to ensure a drug-free workforce from day one.

Random Testing

Unannounced, scientifically random selection testing conducted throughout the calendar year.

Post-Accident Testing

Immediate testing following any qualifying workplace incident or accident.

Reasonable Suspicion

Based on trained supervisor observations and documented signs of impairment.

Return-to-Duty

Required before an employee can resume duties after a policy violation and completion of treatment.

Follow-Up Testing

Ongoing unannounced testing schedule after an employee returns to duty.

HHS Drug Testing Standards

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) established the Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs to ensure accuracy and reliability. While binding for Federal Agencies and DOT, private companies frequently adopt these guidelines to demonstrate compliance with the highest available testing standards.

The Required Drug Testing Panel

Our standard panel adheres strictly to HHS guidelines, which require testing for five major categories to ensure precision and eliminate false positives:

  • Marijuana metabolites (THC)
  • Cocaine metabolites
  • Amphetamines โ€” including methamphetamine, MDMA, and MDA
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)
  • Opioids โ€” codeine, morphine, 6-AM, oxycodone, and hydrocodone
  • Extended panels available upon request

Specimen Collection & Handling

We mandate a highly standardized and meticulous process for collecting and handling specimens to ensure sample integrity. We utilize the Federal Custody and Control Form (CCF) as the official chain of custody document, tracking the specimen chronologically from donor to testing laboratory.

Medical Review Officer (MRO)

A Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a licensed physician who plays a specialized and impartial role in the post-analysis phase. The MRO acts as a gatekeeper, interpreting confirmed laboratory results to ensure the integrity of the process and verifying legitimate medical explanations (such as a valid prescription) to protect donor privacy.

FAA & Aviation Compliance (14 CFR Part 120)

For employers operating under the jurisdiction of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), we support comprehensive drug testing programs in accordance with 14 CFR Part 120, Subpart E. These stringent requirements ensure safety across the aviation industry for flight crews, dispatchers, mechanics, and other safety-sensitive employees.

  • Pre-employment testing before safety-sensitive roles
  • Unannounced random testing throughout the year
  • Post-accident testing following qualifying incidents
  • Reasonable cause testing with supervisor documentation
  • Return-to-duty testing after violations
  • Follow-up testing for returning employees
